Google thumbs its nose at librarians

The Chronicle reported today on a disturbing development in the relationship between Google and the librarian community; Google is closing down its “Librarian Central blog” and in order to increase communication is (HAR HAR) going to send out a newsletter “every few months.” This development follows on the heels of Thursday’s controversy over accusations that Google is using up and discarding librarians and libraries.

This would be scary if it was the first sign of Google looking to replace libraries but it isn’t.  Library people have known for some time that google’s goal is no less than total dominance over the information age.

What will they do about it?
